There is no single food within your diet that is responsible for maintaining healthy skin. What you must ensure is a totally balanced and healthy diet. However there are certain nutrients which are particularly important and certain food where you can obtain them.

Vitamins for your skin

Vitamin A is very important for the health of your skin. The most potent source of vitamin A is cod-liver oil. Other dietary sources include carrots, spinach, milk and egg-yolk. Vitamin A deficiency causes very dry skin and sometimes a rash. Vitamin B Complex is one of the most important vitamins for protecting your skin. It constitutes the basic foundation of your skin. Inadequate intake can result in dermatitis or sometimes alopecia. Food sources include eggs and bananas.

Minerals for your skin

Selenium has also been show to be important for skin cancer prevention. It can either be taken as a supplement or used in a cream. This mineral also helps protect your skin from sun damage. Selenium could also help reduce your risk of sunburn. The best natural sources of selenium are whole grain foods, seafood and garlic.

Zinc is particularly beneficial if you suffer from acne, in fact, sometimes acne may actually be a sign of zinc deficiency. You can take zinc as a supplement or use a zinc based cream. Food sources of zinc include chicken and oysters.

A Healthy Avocado Face Freshener

This combination will improve the texture of your skin. Used regularly it will help reduce signs of aging such as liver spots and wrinkles. Carrot is high in beta-carotene and anti-oxidant vitamins, while avocado is a rich source of vitamin E. The thicker the consistency of the mask, the more intense the action on the skin.

Blend 1 carrot with 1 peel and pitted avocado and tablespoons of honey. Spread the mixture over the face and neck and relax for fifteen minutes, rinse of and dab the skin dry with a warm towel.

When doing facial treatments, don't forget to include the neck, it often receives just as much harsh treatment as the face. Massaging the neck, particularly at the back, while applying a revitalizing rub or pack eases tensions from the muscles which will make you feel younger and more alert.
