Cancer Preventions Food Fighting Cancer

No one particular food can insure your immunity from cancer, but there are simple changes that you can make to your diet that will dramatically reduce your risk of cancer and also may help you live longer if you already have cancer. Different foods work to fight cancer in different ways. Some fight tumour producing agents, while others help to remove carcinogens from the body and still others help to heal malignant areas in the body. Here are some healthy changes you can make to your diet, to help you fight cancer:

Reduce Fat Intake

To fight cancer, you should also limit consumption of meats, especially those high in fat. A high-fat diet can increase the risk of cancers of the colon, prostate and rectum. A great deal of evidence indicates that saturated fat may increase the risk of cancer as well as heart disease. Avoiding fat not only reduces the risk of cancer but improves your ability to manage your weight.

Eat more Fruits and Vegetables

Natural flavonoids present in fruits and vegetables can help fight cancer. Studies show that men and women who eat up to eight or nine helpings of fruit and vegetables each day are at the lowest risk of getting cancer. Studies have shown that eating plenty of fruit and vegetables can specifically reduce the risk of lung and stomach cancer.

Green Tea fights Cancer

Although green tea catechins take on a number of metabolic changes once they are inside the body, and many of them are passed out of the system relatively quickly, numerous studies have shown that they have a preventative effect on several different type of cancer. EGCG, again is responsible for these beneficial effects, but not only can this powerful antioxidant protect your body against cancer, it can actually binds to a protein found on tumor cells and dramatically slows their growth. Studies have show green tea to be beneficial for a range of cancers including: lung cancer, colon cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate and breast cancer, though the exact mechanisms for these are unknown.

Soy foods and Cancer Prevention

The soy foods include tofu, soymilk, soybeans, soy nuts, miso (soy paste), tempeh, soy burgers and soy nut butter. The best known active ingredients in soy are isoflavones. Studies have demonstrated a protective effect against cancer in the cells and tissues of the bladder, cervix, lung and stomach. Diets plentiful in soy may help boost the effects of chemotherapy certain types of cancer such as breast, cervical, ovarian, head and neck cancer.
